“Bodegas de Argentina” is a chamber of commerce which joins most of the main wineries in Argentina. It was created in 2001 as a result of the merger of the “Centro de Bodegueros de Mendoza” (Center of wine-producers of Mendoza), located in Mendoza and founded in 1935 and the “Asociación Vitivinícola Argentina” (Argentine Viniculture Association), located in Buenos Aires and founded in 1904.
The aim of this merger was to lay the foundations of a growing entity with a bigger national representation as a chamber of viniculture industry. This objective was fully accomplished as the founder wineries of “Bodegas de Argentina” were only 62 and today its members are more than 220 companies from all over the viniculture regions of the country. There are members from the provinces of Salta, Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan, Mendoza, Neuquén, Río Negro, Córdoba and Buenos Aires. The Regional Vice-presidents appointed in each one of these regions, and who are part of Bodegas de Argentina’s Board of Directors, are the institutional bonds between them.
The members are traditional viniculture companies as well as the new generation of small familiar companies. Among them there are wineries belonging to founder families of the industry and others owned by foreign investors. There are important multinational companies and small and medium-sized enterprises dedicated to viniculture, and corporations and cooperatives. As it can be seen, it is a clear sample of current viniculture.
The companies associated to “Bodegas de Argentina” were pioneers in implementing the technological developments started in the 90’s and still continuing. They played a leading role in the quality changes that identify current wines. They initiated the work on foreign markets expansion and on the development of tourism related to viniculture.
